ATTENTION HOMEBREWERS! ANNUAL COMPETITION UPDATE 1/30/08

Annual Competition Overview: Siciliano’s Market will be accepting all BJCP recognized beer styles for our 2008 Homebrew Competition. (We will not be accepting Cider or Mead entries.)

The awards ceremony and homebrew party is to be held the evening of April 19th at The Guest House on Stocking and 4th in Grand Rapids, MI. Entries will be due by 4/7/2008.   Drop off entries at the Siciliano’s Market 2840 Lake Michigan Drive NW.

Requirements: Each brewer may enter one (1) entry which must have been brewed by the person making the entry.  Only one entry will be allowed per family , i.e. entries submitted under the name of the brewer’s wife, children, dog, cat, etc.  will not be accepted.   Two (2) unmarked, unlabeled 12oz BROWN bottles are required for each entry along with a BOTTLE ID TAG. . Click HERE for the bottle ID tags.  Rubber-band the bottle ID tag  to each bottle.  DO NOT GLUE OR PASTE.   There will be a $5.00 fee to enter the competition in order to cover the costs for the judging, awards ribbons and medals. Entries may be submitted under the names of multiple brewers. However, if each brewer wishes to receive a medal for such an entry, additional $5.00 entry fee(s) must be submitted.

Judging: Each entry will be judged by a panel of qualified judges. The scores given will reflect the entry’s adherence to the BJCP style for which it was entered under, not rather it is a “good” or “bad” beer. Check out http://www.bjcp.org/stylecenter.html for the complete style guidelines

Awarding: Gold, silver and bronze medals/ribbons will be awarded based on score. All entries that score within these respective levels will be rewarded. This means it is possible for more than one gold/silver/bronze medal to be awarded for a particular style, or that no medals may be awarded for a style even if there are entries in that style category. Judges will select a “Best of Show” out of all the entries which were awarded a gold medal. The Best of Show winner will be immortalized with his/her name forever engraved on the Siciliano’s Cup displayed at the store for all to see.  The “Best of Show” winner will also be able to brew their winning recipe at the Hopcat.

Note: This competition is not only for “advanced” or “all-grain” brewers! All levels of brewers are encouraged to enter and all will receive notes and feedback from the judges.
