| GENERAL PARTIAL MASH INSTRUCTIONS
Use 1.5 quarts of water per pound of grain in your recipe.
For brewing this method you will need three pots between 12 and 20 quarts at least. Here’s what we will call them 1) Mash tun, 2) Hot liquor tank, 3) Brewing kettle. You will also need a strainer.
1) In a 3-5 gallon pot (mash tun), heat the water to 164F, turn off the burner, stir in grain, cover and let rest for 45 minutes. Monitor temperature with a floating thermometer. On another burner, heat 2 gallons water to 180F (hot liquor tank).
2) Place strainer over empty brewing kettle (at least 5 gallons) and line with straining bag. Next, scoop grains from pot into strainer and rinse grains through the strainer with 2 gallons 180F water collecting the run-off into the brew kettle. Discard grain sock. Top kettle up to at least 3 gallons total (if necessary) and bring to a boil per usual.
