This week's list of new and returning products follows information about the upcoming Big Brew Day at Trail Point Brewing

Big Brew at Trail Point

If you enjoy hand-crafted beer, if you like hanging out with fun-loving people and if you won’t be too busy on May 7 celebrating National Paste Up Day or National Roast Leg of Lamb Day, we invite you to join a gathering of passionate home brewers at Trail Point Brewing in Allendale, Michigan in a country-wide observance of National Homebrew Day.

In 1988 the United States Congress decreed that the hobby of home brewing be added to the list of National Days and in that same year the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) created The Big Brew Day as a way for home brewers to gather together and celebrate the national recognition of their hobby. AHA Big Brews are held each year at hundreds of venues around the country on the first Saturday in May.

Siciliano’s Market began sponsoring Big Brews in 2012 and the annual events have since become some of West Michigan’s most popular public home brewing celebrations. This year twenty-six teams of dedicated home brewers will be brewing batches of Beer City Pale Ale in Trail Point's back parking lot. Samples of hand-crafted, home brewed beer will be available to those of legal drinking age and at 1 p.m. the gathering will join in a simultaneous, country-wide toast to this life enriching hobby. The Best of Show winner for the 2022 Siciliano's Homebrew Competition will be announced at the event.

Speaking of the competition, online registration for entries will be accepted from Sunday, March 20 through Sunday, April 10 or until 100 entries are submitted, whichever occurs first. Go here for rules and regulations.

Crafted Meadery BFF, $10.89/500ml-It is said that once, long before the birds and the bees, there was the Banana and the Bee. The rowdy Banana came from the wrong side of the tracks, so it was instantly a scandalous relationship. Things were hot for a while, practically a flambé. Their love didn’t last long, though, as it was steeped in good times and a heavy dose of a certain Caribbean libation. After the flames settled settled they decided it would be best to stay BFF’s.

Crafted Meadery Caffee Ameadicano, $10.89/500ml-How do you take your Ameadicano? One shot of honey or two? It may be a shot in the dark but we believe the best part of waking up is a nice balanced mead in your cup. Because as Johann Sebastian Bach once famously said, “Without my morning Caffè Ameadicano I’m just like a dried up piece of roast goat.”

Drie Fonteinen Golden Doesjel, $21.99/375ml-Blend of 1-, 2- 3- and 4-year old lambic - 4-year old component at least 25% of the belend -, all fermented and lagered in oak barrels and vessels. With Doesjel, the wild fermentation of the young lambic did not continue throughout the bottle conditioning as the yeast "dozed in" ("ingedoesjeld"). This beer has no head, just like lambic so please don't panic.

Drie Fonteinen Schaarbeekse Kriek, $69.99/750ml-3 Fonteinen Schaarbeekse Kriek is the result of macerating local hand-picked Schaarbeekse cherries on young traditional lambic for at least one year, in a proportion of one kilo of sour cherries per liter of lambic. The cherry lambic is then blended with young lambic and bottles, after which our famous Schaarbeekse Kriek matures for another year at least in the bottle. Refined and with evolution in the glass. Natural fruit, no juice, syrup or sugars added. Unfiltered and unpasteurised.

Goller Dunkle, $5.49/16.9oz-This dark mahogany lager is made in the traditional Bavarian style with malt forwardness and low bitterness. Dark but translucent, this full bodied beer pours with a thick and creamy, off-white head. No Göller beer has won more awards than the Dunkel. The earliest Dunkel was first brewed by the Benedictine monks who established the settlement of Munich in the middle of the 12th century. The Reinheitgebot (Purity Laws) caused the style to develop to what it is today: clean and smooth.
