Siciliano's Market News, March 24, 2022 Edition

This week's list of new and returning products follows information on how to participate in May 7th's Big Brew at Trail Point

We are pleased to announce that on Saturday, May 7, Siciliano’s Market is teaming up with Trail Point Brewing to sponsor an American Homebrewers Association Big Brew Day in the parking lot of the brewery's Allendale location.

As the sponsors for the Beer City Big Brew at Trail Point we are donating and providing the following:

  • The ingredients for twenty-six all-grain batches of Beer City Pale

  • Chemically treated hot water for brewing

  • A chilling station capable of simultaneously cooling six kettles of wort

  • Platform hand carts for moving brewing equipment to and from vehicles and transporting kettles of wort to and from the chilling station

We are now asking those who wish to participate in this event to contact steve@sicilianosmkt.com with the following information:

  • Whether you would like to brew a batch of Beer City Pale with your own equipment (mash/lauter tuns, propane burners, kettles, etc.) and be designated as a captain of a brewing team.

  • Whether you will need electricity for your brewing system. Spots with electrical access are limited and will be assigned on a first-come basis.

  • Whether you would like to brew but are unwilling or unable to transport your equipment to the event. In this case you will be assigned to a brewing team

  • Whether you would like to participate as a member of a specific brewing team. If so, indicate the captain you would like to brew with.

  • Whether you wish to participate as a volunteer helper.

While we will do our best to accommodate everyone who would like to participate as a brewer at this event, please keep in mind that the number of donated batches and the number of spots are limited. Spots will be reserved on a first come basis.

Featured Wines of the Week

Bonterra Equinox Red, $17.59 Twice a year, the sun crosses the celestial equator, resulting in a day and night of equal length. These occurrences are referred to as “equinoxes,” and the twin lengths of day and night when they occur are among the many ways nature demonstrates balance. At Bonterra, we strive for a similar natural balance in our organic vineyards and in our wines. Equinox Red celebrates this vision, offering supple notes of juicy red and black fruit matched with a patina of intriguing spice, herb and oak tones. https://www.bonterra.com/wines/equinox-red/

Palacaio del Burgo Rioja $8.59 Palacio del Burgo Tinto is made from 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha & 5% Mazuelo.

Very bright, deep and clean violet color; blackberry and licorice aromas in the nose; long-lasting, powerful and smooth taste in mouth.

Biscaye Baie Sauvignon Blanc, $11.89 Biscaye Baie is produced from hillside vinyards surrounding the medieval village of Condom in the Gascany region. Situated between the Bay of Biscaye, on the Atlantic Coast, and the Pyrenees Mountains, this estate benefits from the cool ocean and mountain winds propitious for the production of Sauvignon Blanc. Biscaye Baie bursts with flavors of pears, white peaches, lychees and passion fruit. Enjoy it alone or with fish, seafood, chicken or pork.

Featured Spirits of the Week

J Mattingly Four Lake Cake Small Batch Light Whiskey $135.99 Aged for 7 years, at 131 proof. This bourbon will surprise you with it's notes of buttery yellow velvet cake, a touch of cinnamon, and some oak spice in the finish.

Nelson Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey $31.59 We’re proud to resurrect our remarkable family recipe, with the first bottling since 1909. Painstakingly filtered through a mellowing bed of sugar maple charcoal and aged in new charred oak barrels, it’s easy to taste why Charles Nelson's wheated mash bill recipe and meticulous process set the standard by which all future Tennessee Whiskeys are judged. We think you’ll agree that it’s been well worth the wait.

Don Ciccio & Figli Finocchietta $33.59 History tells us that Roman gladiators flavored their food with Finocchietto, believing it to be a source of strength. We would be inclined to agree with the gladiators. Finocchietto is a fine savory digestif and a cooking staple in many Neapolitan kitchens. A clean, vegetal and fresh anise flavor, with an unmistakable fragrance and taste.
