Big Brew at Trail Point

Preamble by Steve Siciliano

It hasn’t been very spring like in the environs of Beer City USA of late but it appears that the weather will be improving just in time for this Saturday’s Big Brew at Trail Point.

That’s good news for the 26 teams of dedicated home brewers who will be gathering in the parking lot of the brewery’s Allendale location to brew up batches of Beer City Pale in a celebration of National Homebrew Day. This popular event is open to the public, is free of charge and attendees will be able to sample a variety of the hobbyists’ hand-crafted brews.

The announcement of the Best of Show winner of the 2022 Siciliano’s Homebrew Competition and the presentation of the prestigious Siciliano’s Cup will immediately follow the 1 p.m. country wide toast to the life enriching hobby of home brewing.

Pigeon Hill Catalina, $2.19/12oz-Lager - Pale

Prairie BBA Weekend, $15.19/12oz

Schlafly Dry Hopped American Pale, $1.99/12oz-Our Dry Hopped American Pale Ale (APA) is charged with American hops to create a bold, aromatic ale. Assertive hop flavor joins the pine/citrus aroma characteristic of American hops to balance the full body provided by North American malts. After fermentation, the beer circulates through a bed of whole-cone Cascade and Chinook hops, boosting the distinctive hop aroma of this satisfying ale.

Schlafly Hazy Punch IPA, $2.39/12oz-Hazy Punch IPA features some of the juiciest hops we could get our hands on with the addition of cara cara orange and pineapple.

Schlafly Hefeweizen, $1.99/12oz-Our Hefeweizen is a light, unfiltered wheat beer, often served with a wedge of lemon. Made with thirty percent American winter wheat, Hefeweizen is balanced with sweet golden malted barley and Tettnang hops from Oregon that evoke a hint of spice. The American ale yeast is subtle, but the grains take center stage and, when left in the unfiltered beer, gives it that classic cloudiness and additional body.

Schlafly Just a Bit Hazy, $1.99/12oz-PA - New England / Hazy

Schlafly Kolsch, $1.99/12oz-Our Kölsch is a classic golden ale that uses a centuries old yeast strain sourced from a famous Kölsch brewer in Köln, Germany. Fermented at 62 degrees, then cold conditioned, it has the delicate fruity aroma of an ale with the crisp, clean finish of a lager. It is brewed with lightly roasted malt and 100% German Noble Hops: Perle for bitterness and Hallertau Traditional for flavor and aroma.

Schlafly Oatmeal Stout, $1.99/12oz-Our Oatmeal Stout is a classic British-style stout brewed with flaked oatmeal and roasted barley. Freshly-roasted coffee beans, cocoa and touches of raisin and dried fruit dominate the aroma of this super-dark ale. The richness of the grain blend is balanced by the nutty character of the roasted malt, the creaminess from the oatmeal flakes and a dose of hops.

Schlafly Raspberry Hefe, $1.99/12oz-Our Raspberry Hefeweizen is a true fruit beer, not a fruit-flavored beer. We add pureed raspberries to our Hefeweizen during the primary fermentation process. Although we add no sugar, color or flavors, the resulting beer is a hazy pink color, with citrus aromas from the wheat and a flavor that is neat and tart. While this beer is low in bitterness, it is not overwhelmingly sweet, making it a thoroughly drinkable beer for the season.

Schofferhofer Pineapple, $2.19/12oz-Shandy / Radler

SingleCut 18 Watt, $2.49/16oz-THE REDEFINITION OF THE "SESSION" IPA. Orange zest, tangerine, and tropical juice aroma, in a beauty of a beer that easily rivals much bigger IPAs, with a substantially full, soft malt body that compliments but doesn’t interfere with the hop attack. When you want the push, weight, and attack of a much heavier (I)IPA but need to be productive tomorrow – One of our proudest accomplishments.

SingleCut ERIC More Cowbell, $4.99/16oz-We've got a fever. And there is only one cure: a lusciously creamy, slightly sweet Stout that sits atop a chocolate and roast malt base that will rock all night long.

SingleCut I'm Using Technology, $5.89/16oz-LOOK OUT MA we've got a brand new DDH IIPA built on some experimental Washington State hops that we are riding high on. Express notes of orange juice and peel, some grassy pear/plum, lemonheads, and a long lasting mango leather finish. Come on!

SingleCut Softly Spoken Magic Spells, $5.49/16oz-Far away across the field there is a hazy golden IIPA bursting with sweet orange juice and apricot aroma, tinged with a tropical twist, that will take you home home again.

Stone RuinTen, $3.19/12oz-In our Brewers’ Tasting Panel, we all get excited every time we sample one of our new beers for the first time. When we absolutely nail a beer, and get exactly what we were hoping for on the first swing, we call it a homerun. This morning’s (hey, we’re professionals!) taste panel was definitely a homerun. Or, as Brewing Supervisor Mike Richmond commented, “this one has got the love.” We brewed this beer using the same ingredients as in our classic Stone Ruination IPA, but bumped up the malt to achieve its elevated 10.8% ABV. And of course we jacked up the hops as well. Not just in the boil, but we doubled the dry-hop amount, using a 50/50 blend of Centennial and Citra. The combination is, dare I say, magic.
